Editrix – The Big E

Editrix returns with ‘The Big E’, the title track from their third album, which will be released on July 25th via Joyful Noise Recordings.

Named for the massive E chords that anchor the track, ‘The Big E’ explores the alienating experience of ageing within music scenes. Wendy Eisenberg’s lyrics compare generational disconnection to extraterrestrial encounters, questioning whether we remain recognisable to our younger selves or the communities we helped build.

The production captures the band’s evolved approach to creation. With members scattered between New York City and Massachusetts, they’ve embraced what drummer Josh Daniel calls a “microdosing” approach to songwriting – precious, hyper-productive sessions where entire songs materialize in single rehearsals. This geographic constraint has forced them to be more focused, trading endless tinkering for spontaneous bursts of creativity.

Recorded with Colin Marston at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves, the track showcases the trio’s ability to balance mathematical complexity with groove-oriented feel. Eisenberg admits to not always knowing the exact polyrhythms they’re playing, which might be the secret to their success – letting intuition guide technical precision rather than the other way around.
